Gymmetry

Equipment

The list of equipment available to the company or to an individual gym. Equipment is entered once and then picked when entering an exercise in Exercises — an exercise is assigned all the equipment needed for its performance, so the member also sees with the exercise what it is performed on.

One record describes a type of equipment, not an individual piece. Dumbbells are one record with a quantity, not twenty separate records.

Entry and editing are done by the administrator; the trainer has view access. The member does not see the form — only the equipment name is shown to them with the exercise.

1. Equipment list

About filters and finding data in lists

In this list the filter offers {Department}, {Location} and {Active}. The {Active} tick is on by default, so only equipment in use is shown; clear it when looking for deactivated equipment as well. The search box filters names among the rows already loaded.

List columns:

  • {Name}
    The name under which the company keeps the equipment.
  • {Department}
    The gym the equipment belongs to. Empty means the equipment is available in all gyms of the company.
  • {Location}
    The building the equipment is in.
  • {Space}
    The room within the location.
  • {Quantity}
    Number of pieces.
  • {Active}
    The tick marks equipment in use.

Clicking a row opens the [ Equipment - Edit ] dialog; a new record is entered with the icon at the bottom of the list. Both dialogs have the same fields.

2. Equipment data

Field Description
{Department} The gym the record applies to. Leave the field empty and the equipment is available in all gyms of the company.
{Active} The tick marks equipment that is in use and offered when entering an exercise.
{Location} The building the equipment stands in. The field becomes available only once {Department} is filled in.
{Space} The room or zone within the location. The drop-down offers only the spaces of the selected location, so it becomes available only once {Location} is filled in.
{Name} The name under which the company keeps the equipment — e.g. Kettlebells 8-24 kg, Treadmill, Plyo box. Shown to the trainer and the member.
{Quantity} Number of pieces the gym has. Leave empty when the equipment is not counted, e.g. body weight.
{Description} Additional information — weight range, manufacturer, model.
{Internal Remarks} Notes for internal use: servicing, faults, planned replacement. Visible to the administrator and the trainer, never to the member.

Values of {Department}, {Location} and {Space} are picked from a drop-down. The ⊗ icon next to the drop-down clears the selected value.

When the selected department has only one location, Brix enters it into {Location} itself; the same applies to {Space} when the selected location has only one space. The value can be changed or cleared with the ⊗ icon.
Placement follows the order Department → Location → Space. Without a selected gym the question “where is the equipment” has no single answer, so the location and space are entered only after the department.
Write names consistently and without abbreviations — equipment is picked by name when entering an exercise. Separate substantially different versions of the same apparatus into separate records instead of describing the difference within one name.

Within the same gym an equipment name must not repeat. The same name may exist in several gyms, as well as alongside a record that applies to the whole company.

3. Company-wide equipment and equipment per gym

The {Department} field determines where the equipment exists, and thereby which exercises it is available to:

  • Empty {Department} — the equipment exists in all gyms of the company and any exercise may use it.
  • Filled {Department} — the equipment exists only in that gym and only exercises of that same gym may use it.

The same rule applies to the exercise. An exercise with no department is performed in all gyms, so in it you may select only equipment that is also available in all gyms. Were you to assign it an apparatus tied to one gym, the exercise could not be performed in the other gyms.

  • Exercise with no department → only equipment with no department is offered.
  • Exercise entered for the gym 1 Move Up → the equipment of that gym and equipment with no department are offered.
If the expected apparatus does not appear in the drop-down when entering an exercise, check the {Department} field on the equipment. Leave equipment that really exists in all gyms without a department.

When the same apparatus stands in a specific place in a given gym, or exists there in a different number, enter a separate record per gym with {Department}, {Location} and {Space} filled in.

4. Saving, deactivation and deletion

  1. Fill in the equipment data.
  2. Press SAVE.
  3. From that moment the equipment is available for selection when entering exercises of the gyms covered by {Department}.

Deactivate equipment going out of use — clear the {Active} tick. Such equipment is no longer offered when entering an exercise, but stays readable in exercises where it is already entered.

Equipment entered with an exercise cannot be deleted. Before deleting, the equipment must be removed from all exercises in Exercises; as a rule, deactivating the equipment is the better choice.

5. Initial list

The list is filled when the Gymmetry module is switched on for the company, in the ~ MODULES ~ tab of the [ Companies ] form under Menu > Code Books. The usual gym equipment is entered — from body weight, barbell and dumbbells to treadmill, exercise bike and stepper — at company level, with an empty {Department}.

  • The list is entered only if the company has no equipment yet. Switching the module on again does not duplicate records and does not bring back deleted ones.
  • The language is taken from the company's language. If the initial list does not exist in that language, the English one is entered, so the drop-down is not empty on the first day.

That list is a starting point, not a fixed code book: rename freely, delete or deactivate records you do not use, and add your own equipment. No supplier intervention is needed to extend the list.
